Luiz Braga, a MSc student at State University of Campinas, recently joined our group for six months. He is interested in understanding how current knowledge about snakes is distributed and where efforts for new studies should be applied, aiming at species conservation.

Since his undergraduate studies, Luiz’s research has been focused on describing the gaps in our knowledge about snake biodiversity. In his master’s degree, under the supervision of Thais Guedes, he is mapping the scientific ignorance (i.e. the shortfalls) and underlying biases in various facets of knowledge about Neotropical snakes.

During his stay at MNCN, he will assess the sampling effort and coverage of the enviromental space provided by the data about Brazilian snakes available at published databases and public respositories.

You can contact Luiz by email if you are interested!
